There is a several important shoe material that you should use to make your shoes.
Let’s talk about insoles. You know that without insoles you can’t make shoes, so you need to make them by yourself or buy them.
The problem with buying of insoles is that you need to buy them together with the shoe last, because the insoles must have the same curved shape in the arch zone as the shoe last.
If you don’t have these possibilities, make the insoles by yourself. Next important item in our shoe materials list, without which you can’t make your shoes is glue. There is a special glue for leather and it’s cement contact leather glue. It used to attach the upper to the insole and the shoe sole, and for leather parts assembling. You must place this glue on both surfaces that you need to attach and wait until it will dry. Usually it takes about 10-15 minutes to dry.
You need also to use different reinforcements and they can be made from different shoe materials.
First group of reinforcements is counters. They keep the shape of the shoes and placed during lasting between upper and lining in front and in the heel of the shoe. In the front of the shoes it called toe puffs and in the heel it’s stiffeners.
So they can be made from:
*thermoplastic material that activated with heat,
*non woven chemical fabric that activated with tiner
*vegtan leather
The second group of reinforcements is used to reinforce the upper of shoes during assembling. This is the reinforcement tapes with a different width which must be placed in different places of the upper. The most used width of tapes are 3-4 mm and 12-16 mm.
Another important group of shoe materials are threads. There is special nylon or polyester threads for leather. They are strong and don’t tear during sewing. There are different numbers of threads and the number depends on the type and thickness of leather that you will use to make your shoes. The bigger the number of thread, the thinner thread is.
