We take leather from a specific part of the hide to ensure durability and flexibility. You'll learn how to cut, shape, and prepare the welt for hand-sewn construction, ensuring a perfect bond between the upper and sole.
Preparing the Stiffeners & Toe Puffs
A shoe's structure depends on properly made stiffeners and toe puffs. We’ll show you how to cut, skive, and prepare them for the lasting process, ensuring they provide the right level of firmness and structure.
Cutting and Preparing the Insole
The insole is the foundation of a hand-welted shoe. We’ll guide you through selecting the right leather, cutting it properly, and preparing it for stitching and lasting.
Making the Holdfast
The holdfast is a critical part of the insole that secures the welt. We’ll teach you how to carve and create a professional holdfast without fancy tools, using the simplest ones to ensure a secure and long-lasting connection.

As the preparation process is extensive and requires precision, we will provide a detailed instructional video ahead of the live session. This video will guide so you can practice and prepare beforehand, allowing you to fully engage during the live class. You’ll learn the exact methods for cutting, skiving, and shaping each component with proper technique.
Additionally, you will receive a pattern sample (or you can use your own) to ensure accuracy in your work. By having your materials prepared in advance, you’ll be able to follow along in real-time and make the most of the live training.
